Birds

Birds and their nests are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) and the CROW Act 2000. Cleartrack have developed protocols in consultation with major wildlife conservation bodies to regulate our vegetation clearance policies during the key bird nesting period (February to August). Breeding bird surveys are used to inform vegetation management regimes which enables priority work to be carried out during the summer months. At Roade Cutting on the West Coast Main Line we combined vegetation clearance with the erection of bird boxes to provide alternative accommodation for small songbirds.
